After much anticipation, the latest version of AASHTOWare Bridge Management (BrM) is here! Building on over 30 years of development, state research, and investment in the Pontis and AASHTOWare Bridge Management 5.X and 6.X versions, BrM 7.0 introduces even more powerful functionality and tools in a modern, user-friendly interface, building on the legacy of innovation supplied by AASHTOWare.
BrM 7.0 is at the forefront of compliance, offering states the most advanced software for SNBI inspections while delivering unmatched management capabilities, such as the BrM Optimizer and Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), to aid in informed decision-making and ensure compliance with Transportation Asset Management Plans (TAMP).
Designed for the future, BrM 7.0 is built on a new platform featuring a robust, improved database tailored to meet the needs of asset owners. Beyond SNBI compliance, it empowers licensees to inventory and inspect a variety of other assets critical to state capital planning. The entire design and functionality of BrM 7.0 are guided by input from state and federal agencies, with advancements focused on improving inspection, management, safety, and budgeting.

Key Features of BrM 7.0
BrM 7.0 offers significantly more than previous versions of the software. It includes a comprehensive suite of inspection and management tools, fully supporting SNBI inspections with modernized technologies like mobile collection and cloud hosting. This version reflects prioritized enhancements based on state input gathered over the past decade and allows states to use the software more effectively versus managing BrM as a software.
Key features such as the Page Builder (formerly known as the Visual Form Editor), which equips states with flexible tools to configure BrM according to their specific needs and preferences, remain. Additionally, BrM 7.0 includes newer features such as QA/QC, Inspection Scheduling, Critical Findings, and visual dashboards. BrM still comes with a Crystal Reports license so agencies can configure reports to their exact needs.
BrM 7.0 goes beyond bridge management and inspection by introducing an ancillary asset module, allowing states to inventory and inspect other asset types—a growing demand within the user community.
Finally, BrM 7.0 includes improvements to the software experience, including:
- Full compliance with MAP-21 and FHWA regulations

Adapting to New Federal Requirements
The Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) and the FHWA’s update to the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) set the stage for regulatory changes that BrM 7.0 is built to meet. This release fully integrates the latest specifications outlined by the FHWA for bridge management and inspection through the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI).

How to Transition to BrM 7.0
States can begin adopting the new SNBI standards at their own pace, ensuring they stay ahead of federal and state-specific deadlines. Keep in mind that setting up BrM 7.0 for the first time requires effort—items such as Crystal Reports, Dashboards, security settings, and roles will need to be reconfigured and not automatically migrate. Please plan for these adjustments accordingly.
